Essential Job Functions
  • Workflow Management:
    Responsible for analyzing, planning, and scheduling work, including assigning tasks to technicians, tracking productivity, and optimizing workflow. Manages shift and shop meetings, and reviews and approves work orders (RO). Ensures compliance with warranty policies and procedures. Handles triage for unscheduled customer drive-ins, communicating with customers and assigning appropriate work to technicians. Conducts yard checks to ensure proper work scheduling and prioritization.

     

  • Labor Management:
    Provides leadership, training, and development for all assigned personnel. Manages performance for the team, including evaluations and addressing any performance issues.

     

  • Customer Management:
    Manages customer relationships, focusing on issue resolution, satisfaction, and retention. Ensures vehicle uptime and oversees customer communication protocols for preventative maintenance (PM) scheduling, follow-up, breakdowns, and status updates. Conducts customer visits as outlined in the Customer Care Plan.

     

  • Asset Management:
    Directs the team in maintaining the appearance and upkeep of the assigned location, ensuring adherence to 65 standards in all relevant areas. Evaluates shop tooling and equipment needs, making recommendations as necessary. Assists with managing vehicle specifications and the in-service/out-service process. Ensures all vehicles meet required specifications in the SAM system. Oversees parts inventory management, policies, and procedures.

     

  • Quality Management:
    Oversees quality inspections of PM and repairs, and conducts in-process reviews for non-PM work. Analyzes root causes of breakdowns, implements corrective actions locally, and communicates issues to the Technical Assistance Center when necessary. Ensures cleanliness and quality of repairs for all vehicles. Works with the Service Manager to ensure all technicians are properly trained and qualified, with a focus on breakdowns, rework, and running cost trends. Maintains control and visibility over shop floor activities to ensure proper diagnosis and optimization of parts/components yield. Helps develop and implements Quality Assurance Audit Corrective Action plans and Continuous Improvement programs. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as customer requirements, and maintains relevant documentation. Enforces safety and EPA regulations.

     

  • Financial Management:
    Ensures the shift/shop meets Net Maintenance Cost per Unit objectives while maintaining quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Implements cost control measures to manage the maintenance operations budget and location P&L statement, working to meet financial targets. Oversees the successful execution of Maintenance Initiatives to achieve or exceed financial objectives. Handles payroll, purchase order approvals, invoice reconciliation, and fuel reconciliation. Manages the customer bill-back process, identifying, reviewing, and approving bill-back opportunities. Ensures proper documentation and reporting of re-billable activity, and maintains data integrity in the Shop Management Online system.

     

  • Other Duties:
    Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Skills:

  • Ability to professionally represent Ryder and competently interact with customer management
  • Strong vehicle diagnostics/repair knowledge (preferred)
  • Microsoft Office intermediate preferred

Qualifications:

  • H.S. diploma/GED required
  • Associate's degree preferred or Experience in Maintenance operations environment required. Demonstrated success in a Ryder role may be substituted for this requirement
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or 1-3 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required.
  • Demonstrated success in a Ryder role may be substituted for this requirement
  • Maintenance and Technical experience in a shop environment required
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with a Shop Management System preferred
  • Microsoft Office intermediate preferred
